First and foremost among Boyer’s selling propositions is weight - or rather the lack of it. He contrasts the 2,000lb+ weight of a conventional system with the 2.4lb of one digEplayer, and that includes a battery giving six hours of standalone running time. In a 200-seat aircraft, assuming that every passenger received a digEplayer, that would add up to a weight saving of 1,500lb and, by Boyer’s calculations, a fuel bill trimmed by $60,000 a year.
