I have no idea why this guy quit. However, I do KNOW a lot about Korean companies and the differences in working with Korean top management teams. No one can fault the growth of Samsung to come from a small TV manufacturer in the early 1980s to overtake their arch rival from Japan (Sony) years ago as the top producer and brand of consumer electronics.
However, if this Mr. Park (~60% of the native population in Korea are named Park, Kim, or Lee) had a disagreement of any kind, that could do it. In the US, we can bitch and moan and disagree with senior management, then go have a beer. It is not so easy with old style Asian companies. I beleive this will make a difference with DM's strategy as some Asian companies may retain a "we cannot say we copied" attitude and they hate US courts as they believge they cannot get a fair deal (In Korea the won rules and justice is not always considered). I don't know if that will work in our favor, but my educated guess it it will help DM once they validate EDIG's patents in a traditional method like a Markman win or a jury win or a higher dollar (higher than "Oh, just go away money") settlement.
Time will tell and it will likely take a while to see that darn forest 'cause all of those darn trees keep getting in the way...I broke my piggy bank and bought a few more shares last week.
