True, if you look at EL`s comparo-pic at http://dinkie.net/Decisions.htm
you see little resemblance. The screen appears bigger (?) and the resolution sucks, but might be a lot better if they pushed that left buttom a few times (to reduce brightness). Yes the case is funky, but that is probably up to the carrier (and have you ever seen a Russian car? Very funky, `50s appearing pieces of ....). It looks like it folds out from the seat-back, and is definitely ``installed``/embedded. Controls are obviously elsewhere, e.g., armrest.
Aeroflot appears committed to the digE (portable) and has not mentioned using anybody else`s device. Aeroflot says they are using the digE on 767s and IL9X series planes. But wait, it says here http://www.airlinequality.com/Product/seat-SU-7.htm
that this unit is on their 777s.
Likewise, Cathay shows a similar installed unit on their 777s: http://www.airlinequality.com/Product/cx-cabin-1.htm
and Cathay has a PMA agreement with Wencor. Note the more appealing look of this version.
Neither airline has announced anything that I`m aware of in the way of installed IFE.
So the evidence is inconclusive. Maybe digE, maybe not. Yesterday I was somewhat convinced (and said so, in those words). Today, I haven`t a clue, beyond rather weak circumstantial evidence. If it ain`t us, who is it? Whoever they are, they are a competitor effectively invading our air space. Does that make everybody feel better? LOL
