They could conceivably be right in the middle of the manufacturing channel if they structure it like the digEplayer deal. If the Kino platform offers the encryption features they say it has then they are in a position of strength and could leverage that into partaking in a second tier of revenues.
You have to wonder why they are getting a piece of the digEplayer`s manufacturing stream. Isn`t part of EDIG`s proprietary platform hardware related, thus giving them a say in the manufacturing process?
Major Asian OEMs might not be as flexible as was APS, but if EDIG has the platform they want, it might just go the way of the digEplayer now that the markets are much clearer with respect to demand and growth for such products.
Although portalplayer didn`t do too poorly with their licensing deal, Apple did cut them thin because, at the time, portalplayer probably didn`t have any other options.
Either way, I can`t wait to see this continue to unfold.
