I certainly agree that it is the results that matter. I will state that hiring another salesperson is usually a positive at most companies. Of course, the results need to follow.
As a blast from the past, it would seem this new hire would be in the Steve Ferguson (spell?) mode. I believe he worked hard and had some results when Fred was running the show. With Fred in a different spot and Willy running the day-to-day sales, that would put more boots on the streets and, to continue to beat my dead horse, more opportunites to SELL STUFF.....always a good thing.
