ATLANTA (MarketWatch) -- Song, Delta Air Lines Inc.`s (DAL) low-fare carrier, will add new in-flight entertainment on all flights, offering passengers on-demand pay-per-view digital movies, MP3 programming and video games at every seat.
In a press release Tuesday, Delta, the nation`s third-largest airline, said passengers will be able to choose from 10 pay-per-view movies for $5 each and pick from an list of more than 1,600 songs, for free. In addition, 11 video games will be available at $5 for unlimited play on every flight.
Song`s new feature additions counter the current trend in which many airlines are tightening their purse strings and scaling back amenities. Last week, Delta said it was dropping its food-for-sale program, boosting prices on alcoholic beverages and eliminating pillows on many flights. At the time, a Delta spokesman said Song will still offer food for sale.
Similarly, last month, AMP Corp.`s (AMR) American Airlines said pillows would be removed from most flights to reduce the time needed to clean up cabins and to save money spent on restocking the pillows
