February 29, 2008 – LUMEXIS, which is pioneering the use of fibre-optic cable for lightweight, ultra-high-bandwidth IFE systems, has unveiled a new Website (www.Lumexis.com) designed to highlight the strengths of its novel approach. The revamp comes amidst suggestions that the Californian company is on the brink of acquiring a launch customer.
“Our Fiber-To-The-Seat system is aimed at airlines of any size and in any markets that are looking for the most advanced in-seat AVOD capability while requiring the lowest possible cost of ownership,” says company founder Doug Cline. “Our new Website illustrates many of the advantages of this state-of-the-art technology, provides background information on our company, and will help users to contact and visit us.”
Former Sony Trans Com president Cline teamed with Airshow co-founder Rich Salter to create Lumexis in 2003. Since then it has developed a gigabit-rated system that has attracted the attention of at least one leading US carrier.
At last September’s WAEA show Montreal-based Inflight Canada revealed a scheme designed to allow the system’s high-capacity but fragile cables to be installed beneath the cabin floor with the minimum of potentially damaging stress. The solution is based on plastic clamps and requires no cutting or drilling of existing floorbeam structure. The arrangement was designed for the Airbus A320 family, and a trial installation was due to have been ready for flight testing by one airline around the end of last year.
