The reason I posted the article was to show how big companies proceed with product development without licensing the technology.

It can be with or without knowledge but it is ultimately up to each company to defend their patents.

There have been comments attempting to diminish EDIG's patents indicating that they would have been licensed if they were valid. This article indicates otherwise.

EDIG and DM are right at a precipice. We can see that with mature markets and well understood product successes, damages can be rather substantial when a jury sees corporate abuse of the little guy's patents.
