It would seem this is the same model as PTSC, who targeted category leaders for one time license fees, no royalties. In theory, it all works out the same. A formula is applied to the past and future product to determine the lump sum.
I like the lump sum game far better than lesser $ up front and the "hope" for royalty payments in the future. The one time license is clean and easy. Plus, both PTSC and EDIG are using private legal firms (TPL and DM, repectively) and those guys want as much money as possilbe -- and they want it in the most efficient manner possible.
The only concern (probably too strong a word) I could come up with is the amount of time and effort DM puts in on our behalf to reach a deal in a reasonable time. My guess (WAG) is they have allocated X amount of hours. Obviously, they want to make as much cash as possible, but the time line could become a bit longer or it could be as fast a they can get a deal done. A trial is likely not at all in their thinking unless absolutly necessary.
We'll see....
Meanwhile, back on the farm, Willy and gang should be selling stuff I can touch, feel, and see. If Larry's post was on track, we should see more and more revens from eVU. It's just the "when" part that will be an issue for some.
Again, I trust an update with some meat is coming in the next week or so.
