December 7, 2007 – FRENCH transatlantic premium-only carrier L’Avion has added to its stock of digEcor digEplayer XT handheld IFE devices in readiness for the addition of extra capacity and frequencies on its Paris Orly-New York Newark route.
Formerly known as Elysair, the airline entered service at the beginning of the year, offering six return flights a week with a leased Boeing 757-200 fitted with 90 business-class seats. Utah-based digEcor was selected to provide handheld IFE.
“We are increasing our flight frequency and introducing another aircraft as a result of substantial customer response,” says L’Avion chief executive Marc Rochet. Between January 3 and the end of September the airline carried more than 24,000 passengers, reporting a load factor of more than 75 per cent for the latter month.
The carrier now plans to operate seven days a week, offering a Saturday return flight from December 22 and introducing its second aircraft next month. The arrival of the new aircraft will allow frequencies to be doubled on certain days, starting with Fridays and Sundays. L’Avion has ordered another 125 digEplayer XTs to cope with the resulting extra demand for IFE.
The latest in the digEcor product line, digEplayer XT can be loaded with films, television programmes, cartoons, music and games, and also supports shopping, advertisements and gambling. It features an eight-inch TFT screen and a built-in card reader, plus optional WiFi wireless capability.
