Interesting pictures. It reminded me of the time they decided the "Old Courthouse" in our town was not earthquake safe and they tried to demolish it.

It withstood all that they threw it. Oh, some windows got blown out and plaster was knocked off. But the building just stood there. It got to a point that they had to use too much dynemite for the area, so they drilled a hole and went under the building...

They found out it was built on a web made of 18" inch diameter redwood beams bolted together and set in concrete. That is when they decide to move the buliding some six blocks and make a historical museum out of it. And, oh yes, the building had been through the 1906 earthquake, no a big problem...

The old timers knew how build things...
