The latter had an interesting history.... The commander of the sub, before the war, was a tanker ship captain. On one of his visits to Elwood oil facility, he was somehow humiliated/lost face. Enter WWII, he becomes a sub commander and decides to ``get even`` with those jerks at Elwood. He passed up better targets along the CA coast and surfaces at Elwood, fires many rounds and destroys the worf, submerges and leaves - vendicated. There is a marker of this event at Sandpiper Golf Course, just south of Elwood, which is a little north of Santa Barbara/Goleta. The debris from the worf was used to build the Timbers restuarant, where I had lunch weekly for about 10 years.
As for the trip to the ASM, better line up more passengers or we`ll be riding the ``short bus``! BUT, when y`all come to pick up me and Kimba, we should plan it so you wine lovers can eat/drink at the Hitching Post and spend the night/pass out at the Windmill a la ``Sideways``.
Nuttin` is a friend of mine; I KNOW him well.
