Jet2.com Customers Laughing In The Aisles – First Low Cost To Introduce In-flight Entertainment

Jet2.com, Europe’s Best Short-Haul Airline, today announced news that will literally be music to the ears of its passengers – in a first for the low cost airline industry, the carrier will offer personal, hand-held inflight entertainment players with the very latest comedy, music, sports and kids’ TV programmes.

Having signed an agreement with Mezzo Movies, the companies piloted the service on a number of routes and will now roll out the Mezzo Players across the airline’s network.

The brand new entertainment experience, available to hire from £5, enables passengers to watch over 50 TV programmes, 50 music videos or listen to 100 CD albums through complimentary headphones.

TV entertainment includes Little Britain, The Office and the Vicar of Dibley to the BBC’s Planet Earth, Footballer’s Wives, as well as The Simpsons, Basil Brush and Postman Pat.

Music includes albums from Nelly Furtado, Pink, Scissor Sisters, Lilly Allen, Nina Simone, Ray Charles, Miles Davis and covering rock and pop, dance, jazz, urban, as well as classical genres.

Jet2.com boss, Philip Meeson, said: “Once again we’re setting the benchmark for standards in the low-cost airline industry.

“We are the first low cost airline to offer this personal entertainment device, underlining how committed we are to providing the highest standards of service for our passengers.

“Having recently been voted 2006 ‘Best European Short-Haul Airline’ for our service, we wanted to raise the bar even higher and go beyond what people expect of a low cost carrier.

“Kids will love the great selection of programmes to watch and for adults there’s a wide selection of some of the nation’s best-loved shows – we’re expecting less of ‘Are we nearly there yet?’ and more of ‘Can we stay onboard?’”

Dave Sampson, one of Mezzo’s founders, agreed: “We know that Jet2.com’s customers are extremely happy with the entertainment we’re providing on flights from Leeds Bradford and Manchester.

“During four months of testing, our passenger research showed that everyone who rented a Mezzo player and who was asked said they would rent one next time they fly.

“Most short and medium-haul flights don’t have inflight entertainment systems installed to save on costs, but this doesn’t mean that passengers don’t want to be entertained.

“In fact Mezzo’s inflight entertainment is often better than many installed systems, as people can choose what they want to watch and on a screen size bigger than most seat-back systems.

“Using it is really simple and straight-forward too. At this low price we offer really great value for money, so much so that people have told us that they won’t bother bringing their portable DVD players anymore.

Each of Jet2.com’s portable Mezzo Players has 25+ hours of video content and comes with one pair of complementary headphones and a 7-inch high-resolution screen that sits on their lap or drop-down table.

Travellers can access programming, which has parental guidance notification, using the extremely easy-to-use controls and through a simple on-screen menu. Shows can be paused, rewound or fast-forwarded enabling people to watch what they want, when they want.

Mezzo Players can be hired on selected flights and additional headphones can be purchased enabling people to share, but passengers must get in quickly as there are limited numbers on each aircraft.
