You are right on IMO. Many may recall my multiple posts over the years describing how, in Jan `02, when asked about EDIG`s patent strategy, RP told me that they planned to wait until flash memory had proliferated through the CE marketplace, then pursue licenses in such a way as to promote other business for EDIG.
Funny that at the time, I ``guesstimated`` it would take until 2005. When IPod went ``all flash`, abandoning hard drive based devices early this year, I figured I was only a little off. What I didn`t realize is the importance, to the patent of interest, of the flash memory being removeable. With myriad devices now sporting this capability, the time for EDIG to execute their long term strategy obviously came.
This won`t happen over night, IMO. Hopefully they are taking time and care to do this right. Read my paraphrase of the strategy again. This may not only be about licenses.
But I KNOW nuttin`! (though the above is truthful).
