SISVEL and Audio MPEG Grant Sony Ericsson an MPEG Audio Patent License

TURIN, Italy & ALEXANDRIA, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 11, 2006--S.I.SV.EL. S.p.A. and its US subsidiary Audio MPEG, Inc. are pleased to announce that they have granted Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB a license for MPEG 1 and 2, Layer I, II, and III patents. The license agreement covers all of Sony Ericsson`s consumer devices with MP3 capabilities. ``The decision by a leading cell phone company to use MP3 in its cell phones and take a license from SISVEL and Audio MPEG again illustrates the far-reaching success and importance of MP3 in the field of audio compression and reconfirms the industry`s appreciation of the research and development behind MPEG audio technology covered by the patents we are licensing`` said Gen. Richard Neal (Ret.), President of Audio MPEG. The MP3 and MPEG Layer II audio compression patents licensed by Sisvel and Audio MPEG were developed and are owned by France Telecom, TDF S.A. (Telediffusion de France), U.S. Philips Corporation, Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V., Institut fur Rundfunktechnik GmbH, and Bayerische Rundfunkwerbung GmbH.
