More Railway Media kiosks open, providing personal video and audio entertainment

Thursday, June 29, 2006

Further Amtrak passengers are able to enjoy digital movies, music videos and television shows through renting a portable digEplayer system from Railway Media and digEcor, as new rental kiosks open in Chicago, Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland and Emeryville.

The popular digEplayer features a 7-inch screen, weighing only three pounds with an 8-10 hour battery. Smaller than a personal computer, the award winning design delivers on demand audio and video entertainment with movies and music already loaded into the player.N Movies currently loaded on the digEplayer range from current and recently released movies. Some movies have been edited and are all rated G, PG, or M.

The console is available to rent at kiosks and come fully loaded with headphones allowing two simultaneous users. Renting the digEplayer is based on the length of the trip and ranges from US$12-$29.95. At the completion of the train journey, passengers are able to return the console at specially marked rental kiosks. It has also been reported that Amtrak is working hard to install digEplayer drop boxes on trains, to provide passengers with a more convenient way to return the players.
