I hear ya, but I also ``heard`` O`Leary voice concerns over theft of the devices (causing additional rudimentry safeguards like snagging passports and credit cards), and of their experiencing a 30% usage rate. These two issues would SEEM to justify going with the installed version.

Other thoughts: if they were experiencing a 30% usage rate with portables with a limited allocation per plane, would their usage rate increase with no limit to availability? Gotta wonder how frequently they sold out of the portables. Also, how many passengers would turn it down if they had the thing ``staring`` at them through their flight? How many passengers ``flenched`` and turned it down because they didn`t want to turn over their passport or credit card? (I`d certainly hesitate before turning over such things to a stranger).

Weight is certainly a factor, but (as you note) our installed system is reportedly much lighter than alternatives. But the trade-off may well be worth it not only in terms of revenues to RyanAir but also in differentiating their flight experience, and passenger satisfaction.
