I set up my account and when trying to buy Zenith I get a message like,"Opening transactions for this security are not accepted". The nearest Scotiabank is 81 miles from where I am, currently in Maine. Any ideas?

I'm thinking I misread that. I thought you were trying to buy at Scotia Itrade. I would call other US brokerages (eg Interactive Brokers) and find one that will trade it.
