Research poison pills a little and you may decide you really don't want one. What you should really want is just a well run, healthy company. The value of such a company will show in the stock price and make a hostile takeover very difficult to do. Hostile takeovers are easy when a company is weak. We should avoid poison pills.
Next is spinoffs. Spinoffs don't give full value to longtime shareholders. They are a special consideration for new buyers. Longtime shareholders often get screwed in those types of deals. So contrary to what some guy on SI is saying, i want no part of a spinoff. I've been a shareholder here for far too long to benifit from a spinoff.
