Iterate, Iteration, Iterative Process...
The verb "iterate" is not commonly used, hence it looks "strange". However, the last two forms, the noun and the adjective, are easier to recognize and commonly used in mathematics.
A definition from the web
Iteration: Repetition of a mathematical or computational procedure applied to the result of a previous application, typically as a means of obtaining successively closer approximations to the solution of a problem.
(Note: In computer software, an iteration = version, presumably iteration/version 1.1 would be better than 1.0; and 2.0 is better than 1.1, etc)
Depending on the required accuracy, the "solution" of a problem could be achieved by the first iteration (one round of calculation/discussion). In other cases, one may need to round and round many times in a loop calculation/discussion until a desired accuracy is achieved, 1%, 0.1%,0.01% accuracy, etc...Up to a point one simply gives up with an announcement "it's enough!" (diminishing return for the effort/ROI).
Negotiations may go back and forth a few times/iterations, but it cannot go on forever.
Just some analogy for fun.
