Yes I believe you may be right about the experimental design, it may have been designed to prove that Sri Lankian vein graphite would be ideal for the production of SLCNTs. In a patent all you need to do is show that it works, its unique, non obvious and then you can exclude everyone else from doing the same thing. So likely that was all they wanted to do was to show that SL vein could make SLCNT by this method so they have the exclusive rights to the this process. But on the other hand there would be no reason to not try and encompass the market for flake graphite as well so I give the authors the benefit of the doubt as well that they tried but failed with flake. Slightly lower concentrations should not matter that much, it it more likely that the crystalinity and the electrical properties are too different.
I do believe that ZEN will work as well since I believe that this type of property, electrical in nature at least partially and related to the crystalinity will also be a property of the Albany deposit based on everything we know.
Don't get me wrong I don't expect a TO to be a multiple of the SLCNT pricing. But it is a very interesting niche and graphene and CNTs will become more and more important in future.
Just one more arrow in the ZEN quiver.
