theLint,
I'll try my best to answer why I don't totally agree with the letter. I'll never satisfy everyone who agrees with it, I don't care its my opinion, and I'm not trying to change the opinion of others.
First of all, my not liking this letter has nothing to do with the actions of 9/11, or any other terrorist action, this is not the issue. Any act of terrorism is wrong, and selfish. I see the point of the letter, the writer has possibly lost loved ones in the attack, and is now of a hell bent crusade against the Muslim religion. This is also not meant to be disrespectful to my American friends as well.
The letter forgets to mention how many innocent people in Iraq, have been killed since the US invaded. This was taken from BBC world news; An estimated 655,000 Iraqis have died since 2003 who might still be alive but for the US-led invasion, according to a survey by a US university. Thats quite a ratio when you consider 3000 in New York. This letter is all about pay-back. Basically we're better than them and we're going to prove it. Therefore all future humiliation we in-cure on you will go unnoticed.

I'll care about the Koran when the fanatics in the Middle East start
caring about the Holy Bible, the mere possession of which is a crime in Saudi Arabia ..I also disagree with the lies in the letter. I work regularly around the world teaching specialized oil field technology , (in fact as I write I'm in Hannover Germany looking to return to Edmonton tomorrow) over the past 15 years I have routinely spent months at a time in Saudi, there is a good chance I'll be there in August. Regardless, open the night table draw in the Saudi hotel and what do you fine a Koran, as well a Gideon Bible. I'll take a picture next time I'm there.
Is this also meant to say all people in Saudi are fanatics; what exactly is a fanatic? I've yet to see or meet one fanatic in Saudi, actually I've not yet meet a single person who has bee disrespectful or fanatical. In fact most are normal people trying to make a nice life for them selves. They eat, sleep, go to work, and buy 50 inch plasma TVs, just like us.
And oh, by the way, I've noticed that sometimes it's spelled 'Koran' and other times 'Quran.' Well, Jimmy Crack Corn and-you guessed it-I don't care !! This is the one statement I really laughed at, yes I know what the point of the letter is. Fortunately I've never been one to buy into propaganda. I prefer to look at both sides of the story. Kind of like the Baines article written about WWF, one sided and ignorant. The issue is ignorance, rather than taking the time to learn about new cultures, and understanding them, lets just be ignorant. F**K 'EM!!!
Consider in the United States a significant percentage of the population is Christian. Especially in the South, you find a real Bible belt. I have no problem with that, go for it. What I do have a problem with, especially in the South is racism toward blacks. I'm not an expert in the field but I've lived in Houston, Texas as well Charlotte, North Carolina for a lot of years; one thing I know, some American Christian's can be racist. No not all, some, in fact they formed a club, the KKK. What does this have to do with the letter? People all over the world do strange and bizarre things, for example the KKK murdering black Americans. People kill people on purpose all over the world. Is the writer against the current actions in Kenya, Rwanda, Palestine, and Somalia? She is probably too ignorant to know anything else that goes on around the world. Bombs blow up all over, but for god sake if one blows up on American soil, wave your flag and shout F**K 'EM.
Hope that helps.
