Thursday holiday marks new Islamic year

The UAE has declared Thursday January 10 a national holiday to mark the new Hijri year, which begins following the Haj season, state news agency Wam reported on Sunday.
The public holiday extends to public and private sector employees in the UAE, with all federal ministries, departments and institutions to close.
Financial markets will also close, reopening for business on Sunday January 13.
