Mr. Rowland Uloth reports
WESDOME'S 2008 SURFACE DRILLNG IDENTIFIES MULTIPLE NEW TARGETS
Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. has released results of its 2008 surface drilling program. The program was undertaken from barge-mounted drills on Lac DeMontigny between June and November, 2008, and involved 51 holes totalling 25,097 metres. The purpose of the program was to systematically test the Jacola formation flanking the company's wholly owned Kiena mine complex.
The Jacola formation is a member of the Malartic group. It is comprised of interlayered komatiites and tholeitic basalts which have been cut by numerous minor sodic intrusions. Gold mineralization is spatially associated with the sodic intrusions and occurs as shear and tension veins or albitized quartz-carbonate plus/minus tourmaline veinlet stockworks with pyrite. The Jacola formation traverses the central portion of the company's extensive Val d'Or land position and is fault bound to the south by the Norbenite-Marban tectonic zone, the main secondary or splay structure north of the Cadillac break.
The highlight of the program was the discovery of the Dubuisson zone, a new discovery located three kilometres east of the Kiena mine which has all the hallmarks of a sizeable mineralized system. The zone has been traced for 500 metres, remains open at depth and along strike and includes the following highlights as detailed in a previous new release reported in Stockwatch on Nov. 24, 2008:
Elsewhere, encouraging results were encountered in two areas, the northwest sector and the Thompson River area. In the northwest sector results were highlighted by broad, low-grade mineralized intervals in the Norbenite shear, including:
Higher-grade intervals include:
Drilling in the Thompson River area encountered several promising intersections which potentially represent strike extensions of mineralized zones previously mined and explored underground at the Martin mine and Zone 10 workings. Highlights include:
A complete listing of the 2008 drill hole locations and significant assays is attached. A map shows the location of assay highlights relative to the Kiena mine.
In summary, the 2008 surface drilling program was successful in identifying a significant new discovery at the Dubuisson zone. The program consisted of a broad sweep of the Jacola formation which also identified several occurrences which merit follow-up drilling in due course. The company intends to focus its 2009 exploration on delineating the size potential and internal continuity of the new Dubuisson discovery. Continued compilation work will assess future priorities elsewhere on the substantial Val d'Or land position.
Technical information in this news release was compiled and verified by Paul Arscott, PGeo, chief geologist, Kiena mine, and Marc Ducharme, PGeo, exploration geologist, in their capacity as qualified persons as per National Instrument 43-101. Assaying was done by fire assay methods at the Kiena mine assay office. In addition to internal duplicate, standards and blanks, the geology department inserts blind standards and blanks into the sample stream at a frequency of one in 20 to monitor quality control.
(xx) High assays cut to 34.28 grams per tonne gold.
