State of California Approves WebTech Wireless' Telematics Technology for Use in Its Smog Reduction Initiatives

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Feb. 25, 2009) - WebTech Wireless Inc. (TSX:WEW), a leading provider of location-based and fleet telematics services, has received approval from the California Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) for the use of their remote vehicle diagnostics systems in California's Continuous Testing Program (CTP) and eligibility for use in the Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review Committee's (MSRC) Local Government Match Program.

The Match Program provides dollar-for-dollar funding to over 150 cities and counties in the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) that install remote vehicle monitoring systems in their vehicles. This also exempts those vehicles from biennial vehicle testing required under the State's Smog Check Program. CTP remote vehicle monitoring is less expensive to operate than fixed vehicle testing facilities and more efficient at reducing emissions, since vehicle compliance is continually monitored.

WebTech Wireless' remote system consists of a GPS Locator device installed in each vehicle and connected to the engine's on-board diagnostics system. Real-time vehicle location and engine diagnostics data is transmitted via cellular networks to the fleet manager who is able to monitor aspects of the vehicle's operation that contribute to increased fuel use and pollution, such as excessive mileage, idling and speeding.

Commenting on the news, Anwar Sukkarie, President and CEO of WebTech Wireless, said, "We are very pleased to have received this approval from the State of California. The fact that one of the most innovative and progressive governments in environmental matters is encouraging and assisting its local governments to adopt this technology is an important milestone for WebTech Wireless and our 'Telematics for the Planet' program."

Harald Fritz, Senior Director Carrier and VAR Channels, WebTech Wireless, added, "The BAR's approval once again validates that our technology is at the leading edge of the market, and is a proven and reliable way to greatly improve fleet efficiency and reduce operating costs and pollution."

This latest announcement reaffirms WebTech Wireless' commitment to providing end-to-end solutions for public and private enterprises depending on efficient and effective mobile resource management.
