Message: VRS added to S&P/TSX Composite Index

BritNick,

We have to stop meeting like this. People are going to wonder how we pick our stocks. First ARU then I find you over on KRY (still thinking about that one) and now here.

I lurked on SH but never registered. I couldn't stand the format. I've been in VRS since summer 2006. I sold off quite a bit around $9.5 a couple of weeks ago (just timing luck) to put into ARU and kept a core holding. After the $0.91 drop I got out between $8.22 and $7.86 (again just timing luck) in order to take advantage of my 'negative' gains (loses) from CVQ.

I was going to dump the cash into more ARU (I was trying to go for what I see as a big short term bounce coming up for ARU) but when VRS got pounded I talked to a few people and things looked solid so I got back in at just over $5. To me it’s clear that someone grossly overreacted to what wasn't that bad of news. But when 25 million shares trade in a few days on a stock that normally does a couple of million, it crashes. The good news is that there were lots of buyers over the past couple of days. Maybe a couple of those index funds wondering if they were making the right move????
I like the stock. Good management, a solid business plan and a true growth market. Lots of international opportunities coming down the tube as everyone prepares to deal with the IED issue.

It's now trading around 30x 2007p/e and is about 6x 2008p/e. I don't see anything to suggest they won't meet their targets so SP should climb back up after a couple of quarters of good reports. I expect things will settle out pretty quickly and with its inclusion in the index we'll see a more stable base of shareholders.
