SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jan. 31, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- UniPixel, Inc. (NASDAQ: UNXL), a provider of high performance metal mesh capacitive touch sensors to the touchscreen and flexible display markets, announced today it has shipped a total of approximately 524,000 XTouch sensors for an 8-inch consumer tablet being offered by a leading national wireless carrier. Shipments commenced in the third quarter of calendar 2016 and are ongoing.

UniPixel's product was chosen by a leading original design manufacturer ("ODM") for inclusion in the new consumer Android tablet for the major U.S. wireless carrier. The product features an 8-inch high definition screen with a 1920 x 1200 LCD ("liquid crystal display"). The tablet went into production in late 2016 and is currently being offered to the carrier's customers nationwide.

Jeff Hawthorne, president and chief executive officer of UniPixel, said, "This is the first program of our 25 design wins in 2016 that is in volume production. The inclusion of UniPixel technology in this new device provides value-added functionality at low incremental cost. We expect to continue to deliver touch sensors for this program throughout 2017.

"We continue to expand capacity at our Colorado Springs facility to address the production ramp for this product and the upcoming programs that will move into volume production in the coming quarters.  During the first half of 2016 we shipped approximately 330,000 sensors for three products compared to over 500,000 sensors shipped in the second half of 2016 for the wireless carrier's 8-inch tablet. We're pleased that this initial program is proceeding as expected. We also shipped initial small volumes to 12 other design win programs during the just completed fourth quarter. The ODMs use these initial volumes for pre-production activities to prepare for volume production in the coming months," concluded Mr. Hawthorne.
