SANTA CLARA, Calif., Dec. 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- UniPixel, Inc. (NASDAQ: UNXL), a provider of Performance Engineered Films™ to the touchscreen and flexible electronics markets, today announced the receipt of its 25th design win in calendar 2016. The new device, an 11.6-inch tablet, will feature UniPixel's XTouch touch screen sensors and will support stylus capabilities. The program award is from an existing customer.
Jeff Hawthorne, president and chief executive officer of UniPixel, commented, "The award of our 25th design win this year represents an important milestone in the history of UniPixel. Since the April 2015 acquisition of the Atmel assets, we integrated the acquisition, refined our technology, introduced it widely to leading systems integrators, as well as the major computing device manufacturers around the world. These 25 programs have been awarded to UniPixel because our technologies provide the leading computer manufacturers important competitive attributes in their upcoming new products. They have invested a high level of confidence in UniPixel and we are dedicated to meeting their expectations. We have made great progress in a short period of time."
Mr. Hawthorne continued, "Our Colorado Springs factory is currently shipping touch sensors in volume production as well as initial pre-production volumes to enable our customers to prepare their manufacturing processes for their 2017 device production. 2015 was a year of first product shipments and establishing our reliability as a supplier. In 2016 we captured 25 design wins from multiple computer manufacturers. We look forward to 2017 as the year that UniPixel components are delivered in volume, and are featured in some of the leading-edge laptops, tablets and 2-in-1 devices that hit the market."
The Company also announced the appointment of Michael Butler as Vice President of New Product Introduction ("NPI") and Customer Support. Mr. Butler will focus on promoting customer satisfaction, streamlining new product introduction (NPI) processes that help scale volume production, provide strong technical support at customer locations, and assist in directing the company's continuous product improvement and enhancement programs.
Over a 17-year career Mr. Butler has extensive experience in management of multi-site, international customer support and manufacturing engineering operations in the semiconductor, TFT-LCD, and solar capital equipment space. He has held positions of increasing responsibility at companies including Photon Dynamics, Inc., Orbotech Ltd., and Orbotech LT Solar, LLC.
"We welcome Mike Butler to the UniPixel team. He will play a critical role in expanding and managing our customer relationships as we continue on our growth path," said Mr. Hawthorne. "We look forward to his contributions in the coming years."
