Why Xsense failed?

What is the cause? There are several and in my opinion, pricing was a major factor in the demise of Xsense. As U may be aware that ITO price has dropped much to compete with Metal Mesh last year. This caused some companies to become non-competitive. For example, Wintek Corporation who is a world-leading Taiwan manufacturer of touch panel based on ITO can not compete and lost orders. Therefore, Wintek has to shut down several factories China last year. Similarly, Xsense process is expensive also (not like UNXL additive process) and can not compete in a market where vendors are looking for low-priced solutions in order to maintain market share. Therefore, Atmel has to close Xsense manufacturing plant. But, don't view all metal meshes the same because all metal meshes are not created equal. Kodak has two processes - silver and copper. According to Kodak, Kodak has one agreement to provide silver sensor to JTouch of Taiwan and another agreement to setup plant in China. Unipixel is working with customers to provide Tablet and All-in-one sensors. Their futures are still to be determined.
