Position Description Job Title: Plating Manufacturing Engineer – Functional Printing

Job Description
The Plating Manufacturing Engineer will report to the Engineering Manager of the Rochester-based FPPF factory, and work with internal and external implementation teams in Rochester to take ownership of the plating process, plating equipment, and associated roll-to-roll hardware and manufacturing processes on the 3rd floor of B326 at Eastman Business Park. This individual will become the process owner for the entire plating process including chemical delivery, manufacturing capacity, yield and throughput improvement, waste handling, and HSE compliance.


Responsibilities
• Work with the R&D and capital project teams to qualify incoming plating and roll handling equipment and processes. Take ownership for performance after qualification.
• Establish formal process settings, process control limits, and testing techniques. Take ownership of titration lab processes to assure plating process is kept in control.
• Provide guidance to Operations in the writing of the Standard Operating Procedures and maintenance procedures to enable Operations to run the tools in a manufacturing environment. Assure all critical definition is complete and documented.
• Take a systems engineering approach to assure that all equipment and processes associated with the plating and testing processes work together well as an integrated system.
• Take a lead role on driving corrective actions to quality or production problems involving the plating process
• Develop process improvements or tool modifications as needed. Develop and execute DOE's in support.
• Drive cost improvements with emphasis on line yield improvements.
• Lead the continuing plating process engineering needs of the facility.



Required Skills and Experience
• High volume manufacturing engineering experience including production line design and qualification.
• Big picture systems thinker and "jack of all trades" engineer including technologies related to: plating, dosing, cleaning, web transport, film unwind and wind, and film roll material handling. System engineering experience with DFM, DFSS, lean manufacturing kaizen, cycle time balancing, and health, safety and environmental compliance.
• Comfortable with plating fluidic hardware controls: pumps, hoses, drums, waste containers, etc.
• Familiar with interdependent, multi-step process flow. Ability to ‘Own” the entire plating line process and manage all aspects of process flow
• Able to interface with production engineers, upstream printing operations and downstream assembly integrators. Capable of directing and advising operations staff on typical daily routines of practical manufacturing
• Demonstrated success in managing multiple external vendors.
• Demonstrated success in driving yield and throughput improvements in a high volume manufacturing environment.
• Experience in establishing statistical process control of a manufacturing process.
• Experience in developing and executing DOE's in a production environment to drive process improvements.
• Solid oral and written communications skills.
• Ability to multitask.
• 5-10% US-based travel to work with partners to improve & update process.


Additional Desired Experience
• Direct experience with electro-less plating systems and titration processes.
• Experience with roll-to-roll conveyance systems and plated material handling.
• Production system design experience.
• Understanding and experience in optimizing the chemistries of large scale metal plating processes.
• Microelectronics and clean room experience.


Educational Requirement
• BS in chemical engineering or related technical field. MS degree preferred.
