Message: A conversation with Yankowski of UNXL from the IV board

Here is a 3rd posters conversation with Yankowski...

This posters conversation with Carl matches txamag and ragin bull's. I took the liberty of highlighting the part about the PR after CES for the doubting aholes on this board. Yup, that would be you iceman.

It has been mentioned in several posts that I spoke with Carl on Friday and I can confirm that conversation did take place. I called the Woodlands office and asked to speak with one of the co-CEOs. The secretary/receptionist told me they weren't in the office but she would have one of them call me. I was expecting to get the statement from her that management was not accepting calls like others have reported. About an hour later I got a call from Carl Yankowski. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised when I received the call. The first thing I addressed with him was the need for a PR to give investors the company's overall status. I mentioned to him that Reed's resigning was a bombshell. He said the details for Reed's resigning would have to come from Reed but it was for personal reasons. Reed is staying onboard to help with the CEO transition. Applying some common sense, that dispels any notion that Reed was fired. I asked Carl about the test equipment and he said it is in place both at Lufkin and at Kodak's facility. All that remains is for it to be calibrated and that will be completed this month. Let me jump forward to today (Saturday) and share additional info about the test equipment that was made known to me. I had the pleasure of getting to speak with Trxmag89 and he explained what took place with the test equipment and how that impacted product not getting shipped in the 4th quarter. The test equipment was manufactured in MN. Reed’s plan was to ship the manufactured product to MN and have it tested on the equipment there, then sent on to the PC OEM. He was simply trying to avoid the delay that would occur due to the time required for shipping/installation of the machines. But, the PC OEM threw a wrench into that plan. They want the test equipment set up in the Lufkin and Rochester facilities to ensure complete continuity throughout the manufacturing process. As any good business person will tell you, you do as the customer asks! This same information was posted by raging_bull_10 at about 1:00 PM on Saturday. I don’t know raging bull at all – we never communicated. What I can say though is that his source provided the same information as Trxmag89’s source provided to him. And the information from both Raging Bull and Trxmag89 is congruent with what Carl told me about the test equipment. Additionally, I’ll share that I gave Carl’s phone number to Trxmag89 and he called Carl Saturday afternoon. He then called me and we compared notes. He got the same info I received and got the same assurance I did that everything was fine and all was on track. He empathized with Trxmag89 and with me that he could not get into details due to the rules surrounding disclosure of company information. Ok, back to my conversation with Carl. He said that he and Bernard Marren were working diligently to get their arms around the current state of UNXL’s operations. (Side note: Keep in mind that these two gents were members of the BOD prior to assuming the co-CEO duties. Members of a BOD typically are not involved with the day-to-day operations of their company, so understandably they need a few weeks to get up to speed). By what he said and how he said it, it gave me further proof that Reed wasn’t fired. If Reed was going to be fired, they would have already had their arms wrapped around the details of UNXL’s operations. Carl indicated that he was going to the Rochester facilities on Jan 21st to meet with Kodak officials. Nothing is the matter; he’s just following a logical process to get firsthand knowledge of Kodak’s operations and meet his Kodak counterparts. We finished our conversation by again talking about the need for a PR. He assured me that he understood my and others’ concerns and that they are working toward getting a PR together but wanted to make sure they have all the details in place first. He said that a PR will probably come out after CES.

Let’s all understand something; the company is not adrift and wandering aimlessly in the desert. Carl and Bernard are consummate professionals and have been in a few rodeos in their time. Let’s also understand that the heavy lifting required by the company to produce and market a product has already been done! They have developed a proven and viable product; they have purchased the necessary equipment to manufacture and test the product; they have POs for their product one of which is from a major PC OEM and I will flat out state that OEM is Dell. Now from here on out is everything going to run like a Swiss watch? Hell no. There will be hiccups along the way that will be the genesis for implementing processes and procedures that fine tune the operation. That is the way things happen in the manufacturing world so get over it!

My final thoughts. I’m as disappointed as anyone that product did not ship in the 4th quarter. But now that I understand what happened, it’s no big deal. The PC OEM still wants the product and UNXL is going to deliver it! If anyone thinks that everything goes as planned during an operation like UNXL has undertaken, then all I can say is that you have never participated in any kind of complex project in your life. After my navy pilot days I worked in the field of IT consulting. Anyone who has ever worked on a big IT installation and integration project will tell you that one of the first things that happens is the big, beautiful project plan that was drafted goes by the wayside real quick. Problems crop up that are unforeseen; equipment does not get delivered on time; computer code modifications have to be made; misunderstandings of the project requirements occur; and on and on. Those kinds of things happen every day at Ford, GM, HP, Apple, Boeing and every other company that does complex work. Look at what Boeing has gone through with the Dreamliner. That SOB was delayed by over two years and then they had all the problems with the aircraft initially delivered. Has any airline cancelled their orders for the 787? Well hell no; Boeing just continues to receive more orders! The only problem Boeing has is that they can’t build them fast enough. UNXL is subject to the same laws of manufacturing process as evidenced by fits and starts, setbacks and foul ups and unforeseen delays just like every other company. UNXL is going to iron out the kinks just like every other company has to do and they will be delivering quality product. I’ll add that I believe UNXL will end up with the same problem Boeing has, i.e., they won’t be able to make the stuff fast enough! The one thing I’m most disappointed with has been the lack of PRs coming from management. To me, there is information that could have been released that clarified the reason behind Reed’s resignation; the problem with the test equipment and the resulting delay in product delivery and other issues. I kind of think the new team is getting the message. I don’t pretend for a second that any effort I make will bring about a greater flow of PRs. But I will say this: I’m going to do all I can toward making it happen and can state with a high degree of confidence that Trxmag89 and probably Raging Bull will be doing the same. I’m sure there are posters on this board who have spent time searching out factual information and to all of you I extend my thanks. I have not been on the MB much over the past several weeks so that is why I can’t readily supply the UserIDs of these individuals….JW
