"Elsewhere, I’m maintaining my “Hold” rating on Uni-Pixel (Nasdaq: http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=UNXL&ql=1">UNXL), despite the recent bullish report from the analyst at Ladenburg Thalmann.

Now that I’ve had time to review the report, though, I want to share the highlights with you:

• “Disruptive” Potential: The analyst concurs with us that Uni-Pixel’s technology is “disruptive.” And rightfully so, considering the UniBoss system is “lighter, thinner, 40% less costly, less power hungry and 2,000 times more conductive than the current ITO [technologies].”
  
• Compelling Growth Opportunity: “According to DisplaySearch, the touchscreen sensor market is projected to grow from nearly 600 million units in 2010 to over 1.1 billion units in 2016, representing an addressable market of nearly $5 billion in 2012. Capturing even a small percentage of this market would generate meaningful revenue for Uni-Pixel.”
  
• Increasingly Valuable Intellectual Property (IP): “The company is building an impressive IP portfolio with approximately 10 new patents filed in recent months and another 30 applications that are expected to be filed by the end of January 2012.”
  
• First Mover and Technological Advantages: “…potential competitors have been unable to print copper on film or glass with line widths that are small enough to be truly transparent to the human eye… Uni-Pixel’s ability to emboss the film and print the conductive copper in a single pass is a key technological and competitive advantage that remains largely unappreciated by the industry and investment community.”

Obviously, I agree with all the assessments. But before moving shares back to a “Buy,” I want to get confirmation that the company is making progress in its transition from a purely development stage company into a revenue-generating one.

Of course, that confirmation could come at any time in a press release announcing the first commercial partner. Or we might have to wait until the company’s earnings report, tentatively scheduled for March 5. Rest assured, I’ll be in touch immediately once we get it."
