China reiterates nuclear energy plans;
Brings 30th reactor on-line and achieves milestones on three others in October alone
China's 2016-2020 five-year plan reaffirms its intention to have 100 rectors in operation, producing 58GW of electricity, by 2020. This trajectory has China overtaking the USA as the world's largest generator of nuclear energy in only fifteen years as China grapples with a problem that supersedes any temporary economic slowdown - replacing polluting energy sources with clean energy.
In October alone, China brought its 28
th reactor to full commercial production, connected two to the power distribution grid (the threshold for "operational status") and another reactor achieved first criticality.
