Cash is King. Maybe there were actually deals pending but any potential buyers figured assets of the company owed to RMB was just too much to deal with. Management probably responsible for mismanaging the whole deal start to finish! Were there one or two shysters (sorry, can't feel any sympathy with some in management who used my investments to line their pockets) since they connected with the company who had already run off with the assets before serious negotiations began?  Who knows.
