I took up Rick Rule on his offer to call Sprott Asset Mgmt and talk with a representative about Tyhee.
The gentleman i talked to was very engaging, although was not familiar with Tyhee particularly as Sprott has "bets" (his words) on around 450 junior mining companies. We talked generally about the sector as a whole and he said they have had the most success with what he termed the Prospector Generator Model. Basically, it involves a major mining company like Barrick funding small exploration/discovery companies either up front or with a net smelter royalty arrangement of 30%.
While we were talking he pulled up the Tyhee website and we reviewed some of his keys to successful juniors, ie. management, juristiction, ounces in the ground, grade, type of geology etc. He used the term interesting a number of times when we discussed the late stage status of the project and the pending bankable feasibility study and he said it would probably be a make or break moment for Tyhee. He felt the 2 million ounces was not enough to interest a major in a joint venture or buyout and that the best scenario would be to bring the project to production ourselves.
The reality as he put it is that only about 5-10% of these companies make it which is a sobering number to consider. Share dilution is a killer and reverse stock splits are a sure sign of a failing enterprise.
He said they have received hundreds of calls regarding junior mining companies and everyone he talks to thinks their company is the one that is going to make it and you really have to have the numbers ie. return on investment and payback time to back up your thesis and optimism.
Finally, he was going to email Rick Rule to ask specifically about Tyhee, as he put it Rick is a walking encyclopedia of junior resource companies and he would probably be able to weigh in on Tyhee. he took my name and email and seemed sincere about it. he took at least 20 minutes to talk with me which seemed pretty nice considering i'm not a client and just a humble golf Pro from Chicago.
Regards, Pat.
