I don't think deflation has to be a doomsday scenario. Jim Rickerts puts it very well. Even if we get deflation, which I still think is possible, the reaction will be overt and very inflationary. Either way, I think gold wins as long as you have a strong stomach. Another reason not to trade or speculate with your insurance.
