Peak Gold versus Peak Oil: Jim Puplava Addresses The Difference.

posted on Jan 16, 2010 07:23AM

Today, on the Financial Sense News Q-line, minute 38:45, I asked Jim Puplava why the debate over Peak Oil is so contention, while in comparison, there's virtually no debate at all over of the possibility of Peak Gold.

His answer centered on the obvious differences between oil and gold. That is, all the gold ever produced now exists, while not so with oil. Then he said that oil (perhaps implying also that gold production also is in a similar state of decline) can be flat or declining while the price may go much higher, as was the case when oil hit $140 per barrel at a time when its production was down.

Can anyone add to JP's answer to help me to better understand why there's no debate over Peak Gold?

Or, is it just that gold hasn't yet reached the importance that oil has in everyday life. And therefore, it's not something people yet care enough about, even less so for dinner table conversation.

Let's see if this changes much if there's a currency crisis.

Que tenga buen fin de semana,

Baires
