Tyhee must do what VANOC did

I've been thinking about how tyhee will be structured, as a corporation that has a major construction project, and then as a corporation that has an operating gold mine.

It reminded me of some briefings I received in Vancouver, from VANOC officals. As you know, the bid committee that enters the worldwide competition to bring an olympic games to a city is quite a different entity from the full on execution of the olympic games.

The briefing I was given, from some lady who'se name I forget, was about how they had to re-configure their organization a number of times, even to be able to plan the next reorganization. At first, about a dozen people were involved in the vision of bringing the games to vancouver. For me, that's akin to the early days of Tyhee.

They had a vision, and began to attract interest, and they added value. They had a property with great potential: Vancouver region, with it's many ski mountains and urban venue sites, and beautiful, "supernatural BC" setting - is akin to the enormous potential of the Yellowknife Gold Belt. Vanoc added value by making deals with civic and provincial officials, about what improvements they could make on transportation corridors, venues, and funding etc. But then, when they made a successful pitch, then had to reorganize themselves into a company that could plan out what they would need to become, by the times the games came on. Vanoc had to plan how to hire people, how to train them, how to manage the PR, how to deal with the requirement to hold a world cup level competition in each venue, before the olympics. THey had to deal with first nations, with various government agencies, and they had to raise money. They had to grow from 12 to 100 people, then to a few thousands. Then, in late Jan 2010, they'll be 20,000 or so with many private subcontractors, like 5,000 doing security screening at venue sites.

Tyhee is small right now. Suppose when they are turning 3 drills this winter, they may have something like 30 or so employees in the camp, plus say 10 or 12 corporate employees, comany executives and board members. SO say 50 at most in 2010.

WHile building the mine, they will have lots of subcontractors doin things like drilling, blasting, erecting buildings, making roadways, doing geotechnical work / making the seals for the winter lake tailings holding site, and so on. During the 18 months of consturction, there may be 200 or more people working on the site. And in the corporate level, there may be many more new employoees, both to manage the construction phase, and ot evovle their corporate management procedures etc for when they are in operation. THen, when they are in operation, they will need to oversee any subcontractors, who may be doing the open pit/underground mining, plus their own internal / permanent workforce controlling the mill and corporate side PLUS the exploration team focussed on the Ormsby/nic lake mine life extension - through continued exploration at depth - program, PLUS the exploration staff for the additional properties in the constellation.

So I think this will be one of my areas of focus for the next time I talk to DW in person. How does he see Tyhee evolving, as a corporation and an employer, to be right-sized and right-staffed through the very different phases of the next 3 to 4 years?

Because while employment may be down in mining, some of the talent he will need to attract may be idenfited now. In fact, this may be one area they are working no right now. They may have people lined up and even scheduled to "come on line" as they continue to move towards production. Perhaps some of the contacts at the "round up" will be along these lines.

Tyhee of 2014 will need a new corporate HQ, as the current, modest little old office on Hasting street could not handle the size requiements, I am sure.

They will need to open an office in Yellowknife. They may use the former ACME Labs building at the hangar lline area of the YK airport. It is vacant now, as ACME has their operations at the Ormsby site. So if they use that building, it may need some renovations. It would be a great location, as it is a short walk to the various air cargo companies that would be actively serving the Discovery airstrip and Tyhee camp. It's also a good logistical site for parking loads that will go up the winter road, as it is 800 metres from the control site at airport road, for Nuna Logistics, who manage the trucks departing / returning on the winter road.

SO I think that they will need to enter contracts and spend money outfitging a new corporate HQ and Yellowkinfe office. Perhaps not this year, but next for sure. This may mean that my estimate of the next few rounds of private placement may be a bit too small. This may mean that the final share count will be higher than my last estimate. So I'll go with 300 millio shares when going into production. So much depends on share price.

GO Tyhee
