1913 prices:
Average Income $1,296.00
Loaf of Bread $.06
Gallon of Gas $.12
Gallon of milk $.36
New Car $490.00
New House $3,395.00
Dow Jones Index 78
Ounce of gold $20.67
Today an ounce of gold is $1104.10 -- that alone means a dollar today buys the same as $.0187 - thats 1.87 cents - did in 1913. As someone stated (maybe on this board?) recently, the next time someone tells you gold is in a bubble, ask them if they could transfer only one asset to an offspring 100 years in the future, would it be anything else besides gold?
