Kimber has already moved on and set a new high for this run. It has already shaken this "noise" off for what it is.
If anyone thinks the U.S. dollar has inherent strength they need to get a new line of work. Of all the currencies on the planet it is among the weakest, otherwise it would not have been used in a carry trade to begin with. You borrow in a weak currency in the hopes that it will be even cheaper when it comes time to repay.
As far as T.A. is concerned this was a temporary, one off event. If anything it will not be a part of a trend but an outlier on the chart. What this will have done in the positive sense is to get all the traders to take their profits and clear the decks for the next rise.
While it is a major event on the world scene it means nothing to gold except the system is weaker than it was thought to be before the Dubai World announcement.
The Marketwatch piece was specifically written by anti-gold personnel. It is a hit piece. Examine it carefully and you will better understand "loaded wording" and "statement placement" in the future. Then it was probably presented by the "money honeys" on TV for maximum effect. Pretty yes, but what they don't know about finance would fill the average library.
"The concerns about Dubai have had a strong impact on risk appetite and the dollar has strengthened significantly"
"Horsefeathers" people had to buy dollars to get out of the trade until they could see where this thing might go. They sold their profit making gold to do so. The dollar's fundamentals are still rotten.
"That's a decline of nearly $65, or more than 5%."
Holy cow, I'd better sell. It's the end of the world.
"Gold has historically been seen as a safe-haven asset that investors flock to during times of financial and economic turmoil, as is the case now with the fears around Dubai."
But not this time !!! It must be all over for gold.
Selling their gold had nothing to do with how they felt about it as an investment. They needed some of those rotten dollars that neither they nor anyone else really wants.
I could go on but why bother.
Don't let these idiots knock you out of your winning positions with their disinformation and scare tactics.
