Actually, a tenfold increase in 10 years equates to a roughly 25% yearly gain.
A double (100% gain) per year for 10 years would make the shares increase by a factor of 1024 (2^10), so your 50 cent shares would be worth $512! (maybe not impossible with Bernanke at the helm of the Fed)
