Mexico's next Presidential election is in about 3 years. In the last one, in 2006, a left leaning socialist/populist, Lopez Obrador, nearly won. I think he came within 1.5% of the total vote count for claiming victory.

He's fallen out of favor with many since then, but his near win underscores how important it is that political risk needs to be factored into the overall risk of investing in Mexico versus Canada.
