I recall that although, thanks to Big Paul, POG peaked and fell off a cliff in January 1980, the miners peaked in September. It's difficult to analogize with the 1930s because Homestake was basically "it" as far as gold mining, kind of like AT&T was in telecommunications once upon a time.
Anyway, based on the 1980 data, even if price fixing gold doesn't work or isn't instituted, linger in your mining plays, or at least stagger their sales.
