I'd like to see the question put to Volker sometime, point blank. Quote his statement and then ask him how he might approach gold now. How he would have controlled gold. Ask him how he feels about controlling the prices of other investments... say shares of oil companies when they get too high, or banks... perhaps they should have knocked back GS as it was topping $300 or Google at $700.00 so as to control the price of internet advertising.

Personally, I don't worry too much about this crap though. A high USD is not going to help the ailing US economy. If anything, I could see them pulling in the dollar. Devalue the dollar by half and you've also just devalued the debt by half and that's going to come in quite handy once the debt tops 20 Tril...

I'm tired of hearing how great Volker was. I remember those times and his interest policies were F'ing painful. I'm not entirely convinced the same outcome couldn't have been done in an easier way. Ultimately it also started the deterioration of the middle class. Poverty also increased steadily since that time. High interest was great if you had a few mill socked away... not so good if you were refinancing your house. A lot of folks suffered immensly. For me personally it was my first experience with investing... I was at one point getting an 18% return on a life insurance policy that I started as a very young man.

Volk is a german word that means Folk.... me being english speaking prefer to refer to the man's name in it's English version... Folker... although I have a slightly different pronounciation... :)
