This is true... BC's primary resource business is forestry (logging). The interior of BC has been devastated by the mountain pine beetle that has killed a high percentage of all the pine trees. Normally the beetle larva/eggs are killed off each winter, but lately winter's haven't been cold enough to do this. It is stunning... scary, sad... when you drive through the interior and see miles after miles of dead trees.... you can litterally drive for hours and see the devastation.
The BC government is eager to replace these lost jobs and the best candidate for doing this is mining. Up and coming mines like CHU are getting a lot of support not only because their location to existing infrastruture and towns traditionally relying on logging, BUT the CHU represents work for a long time... 31 years and counting.
At each level of government and of course the local residents they are getting support. Time will tell how this will play out... but it is a positive for sure.
