Hey Kelsee: I hear what you're saying and being someone who spent decades in the field I suspect that upper management had no idea this was happening. Too many times things like this happen at the camp level to accomodate the daily activities of the crew and management never hears about it until shit hits the fan. I've personally seen stuff like this happen in the field partly because of poor mapping available to the field crews but also because of poor decisions in the field looking for quick fixes. The key to it all is good communications between the crew boss and managements operations plan. There must be rules and consequences for breaking them. Back in the day it was bringing booze into camp that was verbotten...now the teams need to enforce the most appropriate rules of the camp...which in this case is to respect the FN's traditions...but to do that the field crews need to be informed.
I truly hope that Eli and other FN elders take this into consideration when they next meet the corporations and gov't ...just MHO.
Regards, Foghorn
