Message: rail blockade?

I can not comment about the rumour of a rail blockade, other than to say it is a plausible prospective event.

It does strike me though that protests by First Nation individuals and groups are notoriously difficult to contain, that negotiations with these folks are tough and frequently protracted, and that resolutions are often short term.

From an investor's perspective, the best strategy may be to 'get used to it'. Accept the notion that there is unlikely to be any long term resolution soon. This means the issue will be a live issue, perhaps on & off, for as far out as one can see.

If there is a consolation in this case it might be found in the fact that that the First Nations and some companies did reach an understanding to move forward without the blockade, and also that the Province has made an appearance on the scene. It will take continuous attention by the companies, and commitments to address the concerns voiced ( at a cost of course) to keep things progressing.

As a closing remark, it would not surprise me any if the scope of the First Nation requirements, and the costs to address them, turned out to be directly proportional to the stock prices of the companies involved. That said, with good faith bargaining and a recognition of the legitimacy of the concerns, development will proceed.
