Could part of the reason for this might be to stop other companies from staking around them? I'm just speculating here of course, but if you were to show that you have a conductor running in a certain direction out of your stake, you would probably try to stake the surrounding property or negotiate a JV with the landholder if that wasn't possible.
Not letting the cat out of the bag might make it a bit more peaceful too - the phone won't be ringing off the hook with people asking if you are drilling at such and such coordinates.
Could be lots of reasons, but your best bet might be to call Neil Novak and ask him yourself :)
