Montreal's Sonomax Technologies Inc. developer of the award-winning "sculpted eers" high-performance selffitting earphones, has made a breakthrough in the Canadian market.

The earphones will become available at The Source, one of Canada's largest consumer electronics and wireless retailers with 700 outlets across the country. Sonomax has spent 10 years developing and building a consumer market for its patented high-tech selffitting earphones. Earlier versions have long been used for ear protection in mining and industry, but the "sculpted eers" are new-generation technology and convenience, aimed at consumers.

"As one of Canada's largest retailers, we're thrilled about offering Canadian designed cutting-edge products to our customers," said Charles Brown, president of The Source. "With a quick and easy custom-fit process, sculpted eers deliver amazing sound performance and comfort ... an unparalleled personal audio experience."

Sonomax started selling in several major Canadian and U.S. airports, then in selected U.S. specialty consumer electronics stores and music stores, but deal with The Source "gives our product exposure through one of the country's best national retailers," Sonomax CEO Nick Laperle said.

"It'll take a little time to complete the initial rollout in selected The Source stores, but soon they'll be stocked and someone, say, in Sept Îles, will order via the Internet and have the product delivered at home or pickup at the nearest The Source," he added. Laperle's ambition is to sell through a U.S. national retailer and "we're working on that."

Sonomax's V-4 technology allows the "sculpted eers" to be fitted by the user in four minutes - without help. Soon the Sonomax technology will be available for hearing protection in devices such as Bluetooth headsets, hearing aids and other in-ear products.
