The antimony market has entered a new era in which prices are likely to remain above $10,000 per tonne on industry consolidation and government regulation in China, according to delegates at Metal Bulletin\'s Minor Metals Asia conference in Hong Kong.
Rising demand in China will also help support prices for the long term, Alex Yu, general manager of the antimony department of China Minerals Non-ferrous Metals, said. "Current antimony prices are in the middle of their historical range and I would say it is at a reasonable level at the moment," Yu said. Metal Bulletin\'s standard grade II antimony price is at $13,800-14,300 per tonne. Prices will not return below $10,000 per tonne in the foreseeable future, and are likely to stay above $12,000 this year, perhaps breaching $16,000 per tonne, Yu said.
